August Camp-Saas Fee

After a short week at home I flew back out to Switzerland, meeting up with lots of the childrens’ team kids on the flight and hitching a lift with them up to Saas Fee.

In order to save some money on the camp we were staying in apartments and our coaches were cooking for us! It worked out well with our head coach Mike taking on most of the work and making a very good effort of feeding us all plenty!

Frustratingly the weather was bad over night meaning the mountain didn’t open the first or second day! Leaving us a weights and biking programme to follow, as well as some serious volleyball! The third day was open and we got some good GS training in, only for the mountain to be closed again on the fourth day, and the fifth! One day in 5 skiing, things weren’t looking good! We seemed to be on a fitness and volleyball camp!

Luckily the weather got a lot colder and the skies stayed clear overnight allowing the mountain to open and us to get some more GS training before TJ and I headed off to Zermatt for a few days of speed training with the Russian and Slovenian teams. While it was a bit of a pain packing up and moving round the mountain to Zermatt, it was very worth it as we got 2 days of great super-g and downhill training.

Back in Saas Fee we got a few more good days training before the weather came in again closing the hill for the last day before we went home. Maybe not such a bad thing as I was absolutely knackered after a long camp of early starts and heavy fitness training and skiing.

Home now for fitness testing and a good block of fitness training. Hopefully I can make some more positive steps like the last fitness block.
