British Super Combined and Overall

The last day of the championships was the Super combi, one run of super-g and one run of slalom.
My super-g run was very messy and I had a few decent mistakes so felt very fortunate to be leading, although a bit nervous for the slalom as I was only 6 hundredths of a second ahead of 2nd place (TJ) and only 1 second ahead of slalom specialist Dave. The race could get very tight!

The conditions for the slalom weren’t great…very bumpy by the time we went. As I stood in the gate I saw Dave cross the finish line, standing up and clearly frustrated, leaving me thinking he had made a big mistake! But I couldn’t be sure! I watched TJ go just before me, the conditions looked tough! My slalom was very ugly skiing! I was battling against the rutts, but I did enough for my 4th title of the week!

With that I sealed the overall! The second one of my career (I won it in 2007 when still a junior). It also meant I won the ‘Victor Ludorum’ (the overall for men and women). This was only the second time in its history a man had won it and the first time a man had won it since Alain Baxter in 2001. I was thrilled! What a week!
