Patscherkofel

Over the time back in Lofer we received some pretty dire news about our team funding and had some long discussions about how or even if we could continue our programme as we had no money with which to pay coaches expenses. In the end we agreed that with the Olympics fast approaching we had to pay for the coaches ourselves. Really not ideal stresses and discussions with less than a month until the Olympics!

After a day off resting and some awesome super-g training I headed off to Patscherkofel-a smallish resort right above Innsbruck and the site of the Olympic downhill in both 1964 and 1976.

With my Europa cup points from Wengen I had some good bib numbers in the training runs including bib 1! I was feeling pretty nervous as this was my last chance to confirm my place beyond doubt for the Olympics.

The training runs weren’t great and I was becoming more and more nervous. The first race I skied quite well but didn’t let the ski run-probably as I was too tense! I was less than a second off the podium and .2 of a second from the top 20 that would seal my place for Vancouver. Very frustrating!

The second day didn’t start well as my team mate Kenny Morton crashed in warm up and broke his leg, having to be taken by helicopter to hospital! I tried to block that out my mind and relax and let my skis run, I did this quite well but made a few small errors, again finishing 27th! I was very disappointed as I knew it could have been so much better.

Now its just a waiting game to see if I am picked for the Olympics…a nervous wait!
