Val D’Isere

Having been so close to making world cup points in Beaver Creek we decided that I should come back to Europe for the world cup races in Val D’Isere instead of the North American Cup races back up in Lake Louise. The races in Val were again on ‘The Face’ where the world champs were held last year- A super steep and tough super-g hill.

Last year the hill was insanely icy so this year they tried to make it a bit more grippy and skiable. It was still pretty hard but broke up badly. After just a few racers the track was getting very bumpy and more difficult for the later numbers. In the super-combi I suffered badly in the bumps and blew out the course quite early on.

The second race was a normal super-g race. Again the slope broke up pretty badly and with it snowing heavily and it being very foggy people were struggling badly and there were a lot of people crashing out the course. I faired no better! I watched the American before me crash into the nets on the first big corner then pushed out the gate. I skied quite well on top, I skied quite aggressively despite the conditions but was a bit back when I hit a bump and got shot straight through the next gate and was lucky to avoid injury and the nets!
