Fundraising Race at Bearsden Ski Club

On 31st October Bearsden Ski Club hosted a fundraising event to help fund my training and racing for the season while also having some good racing at the club. Great success!!

The day was incredible for me with an awesome turn out of racers-over 110 racers with some very young kids all the way up to some of the “older generation” some of whom hadn’t skied on dry slope for years (and possibly decades). The level of support was amazing with so many people keen to help in any way they could, providing prizes, bullying family members to race, helping on the day and even university whip rounds! Money from students!!

The racing was fantastic, with very competitive racing across the age groups and team events. It was great to see so many people from all over with a huge contingent of Bearsden and Bellahouston race trainees, university teams as well as some parents and racers from days gone by. It was amusing to see how hesitant and nervous some people were before the start, however it all seemed to come flooding back after a few runs and most were left wanting more racing!

The whole race day ran exceptionally well and smoothly. Many thanks to everyone who was involved, helpers, sponsors and racers and especially my parents and my brother Mike who put in a huge amount of hours and effort in the lead up and were in charge of the whole day.

In the evening we ran a horse racing event with people buying horses and winning owners winning prizes as well as everyone being able to bet on the outcome of the races. We were given some incredible prizes from various people and the night ran pretty smoothly despite a few technical issues with the sound system and the race dvds.

The clubhouse was packed out again and there was a great atmosphere. With drinks promotions at the bar, betting and a fantastic buffet by Sarah most people were happy especially with the number of prizes being given out!

All in all it was an amazing and quite emotional day with overwhelming support from so many people. Thanks so much to everyone involved and who came along, the money raised will go a long way to paying for my training and racing this season and hopefully I can deliver some good results!

See you next year?!
