British Champs 3-slalom and Alain’s farewell

Having only done a few GS races and one slalom (where I only made 6 gates) I really wasnt sure how the technical events would go at the British!
In the slalom I drew bib 1, my first good draw of the the week and in soft conditions could be a big help. The first run I felt I skied ok but didnt realise how good it was until person after person came down behind me and I was leading the first run! A big surprise! The second run I was pretty nervous but again skied well and despite running late in the middle held on for second place less than half a second behind Dave Ryding. I also made some great FIS points 16.57! Less than half my current points!
This was also Alain Baxter’s last ever race. He started the first run and skied down to meet the coaches at the final ridge, sharing a whisky with them before continuing down to great cheers from everyone! A great goodbye to a legend making it quite an emotional night for a lot of people! He will be badly missed in the team next year but I hope we will still see him around!
